Piccinini's materials - Protein Lattice

As Piccinini's work produced the best collective adjectives I used her work for my above and below ground spaces. It is possible for one to argue that her artwork the Protein Lattice is not about materials she has used but rather the lack of materials in the painting. The image of the lady holding the rat is contrasted against the black background - the complete 'void' of materials. The rat may have been made out of plaster or perhaps clay, and the lady is simply an image. The lack of materials in the image gave me freedom to use a wide variety in my own SketchUp design yet still carries elements of the artwork. The most obvious is the colours used in the below ground space. The central orb is blond (for the lady's hair) and the balls of the spikes are skin tone to suit the colour of the lady's skin and the colour of the rat. It can be said that the choice of artist and artwork have given me great freedom in my design while maintaining adherence to the design brief.
