The two offices are built for Zhang Yin and Steve Jobs. The environment revolves around the concept of compressional and tensional forces keeping masses in harmony with each other.

Jobs' space, as seen in the above images, is balanced at the top - his office is trying to break free, grow, continue to evolve. But if it weren't for Yin's office and the meeting space below the bridge, it would simply collapse. This is a metaphor for our technological world, that while it is excelling at such a high rate it is still dependent on many other factors, especially old ideas (Yin's office) and those factors in between (the neutral meeting space) to grow. At the front of Jobs' office there are 3 objects symbolising the notion of technological speed, and the flowing static mesh above it represents growth and evolution of his technological empire. The space is illuminated by a cool blue light, a common representative of technology. His space dominates the bridge, and Jobs is free to show the 'world' of his enormous power.

Yin's office is in deep contrast to that of Jobs'. Hers is hidden away, deep inside the bridge for she is modest and old fashioned. It is illuminated in contrast to Jobs, with bright red lights representative of old, of tradition and of the earth. Her office itself is a piece of paper that is actually her elevator to the meeting space. On the office is thousands of tiny images of herself, a further representation of her modesty (one must look close to notice her). When her office is in motion, it floats down like a piece of paper until it is directly under the meeting room and, as if a gust of wind collects the paper, is thrust directly upwards so her office forms the base of the room.

The meeting space itself is a combination of both offices - it is not totally old fashioned yet not advanced with technology. While Yin's office forms the base of the space, this is only for a short period of time. It drops away, showing that we need to sometimes let go of old ways and move on. The table centered in it is constructed like the overall environment itself - built based on the relationship between compressional and tensional forces. In the space, the cool blue and bright red lights meet directly where the table is placed, to create a neutral purple space where the clients can meet to exchange ideas etc. One can then exit to Jobs' elevator which takes oneself to his office on the sky.

It must be noted the travel of the player in this world. Although one begins facing Jobs' office, facing the future and possibilities, one must first turn around and travel through Yin's office and old traditions in order to reach the meeting space which in turn allows oneself to travel to Jobs' office. It demonstrates a sense of chronological order in the environment and also shows how technology can only advance, not retreat.

Inspiration...

My idea for Steve Job's space was inspired by Russell's week 11 lecture 'The Bridge'. The notion is based on compressional and tensional forces, and carries on in my experiment. Job's is new age, technologically advanced, reaching for the future. His space yearns to break free - yet he needs the tensional forces that use the mass of the meeting space and Yin's office as an equal balance. That is, new still requires old to progress - old ideas, designs, innovations - and thus the entire space is dependent on itself to balance.

Mashup of Articles

Let me get this straight: Steve Jobs insists that the wealthiest self-made woman in the world has been Mr. Simons’s achievement as a designer. Yet beyond a powerful statement, despite being almost unknown in the wider world, “These signs are wrong,” said Bryan, a clerk in sort of general-announcement mode near the mob at the iPhone table late in the afternoon. Mr. Simons and his team had some powerful champions who helped put focus on these shares.

While Mr. Jobs owns the gun, Zhang is in a class of her own when it comes to elusiveness. A powerful method of construction is the secret of her success, the ability to look ahead. Sex kittens claim the title of China’s wealthiest entrepreneur, rendered beautiful to the touch. But in the future, if the gated community loses a lot of cultural real estate, where will the real power lie? The real question is, will the rise to power of Steve Jobs create beautiful chaos? The company’s future asset and the future of the world is at stake.

Electroliquid Aggregation

"Were there none who were discontented with what they have, the world would never reach anything better. This has lead me to notice that even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road."

Florence Nightingale and Stephen Hawking

My environments are based strongly on these quotes. The exterior environment relates to Stephen Hawking's quote and is about reaching inevitable destiny. One spawns from 'heaven' and travels down the ramps with increasing difficulty until they reach the meeting space of the clients: they are plunged into reality. The ramp one faces to get to this exterior environment is awkward and unstable like journeys in life. Once they reach the first cube and enter the environment at the top they are plunged into darkness and must reach the light at the end of the tunnel. Thinking this is the last journey to the ramp at the end (destiny) they enter another rectangle that has a maze that leads nowhere; a metaphor for some experiences in life. Finally they enter a corridor and then ramp that takes them to the ramp of destiny and upon standing at the very end they can view the entire environment they just experienced. This ramp is equal in height to the spawn point symbolising that in the end we only come back to the beginning.
The interior environment must be reached by experiencing long, confined and claustrophobia-inducing tunnels that are dark and ominous. Once reaching the end one comes to the interior space that is brightly illuminated by the central cube. The tunnels symbolise the discontent of the player and the cube symbolises the achievement of something better; hope and success. When leaving the space one must exit through one long straight tunnel that contrasts greatly to the one that is used to enter the space; it is open and brightly illuminated. One eventually reaches the meeting space again.
It is important to note that the interior space can only be reached by first going through the dark tunnels; the ramp that is used to exit cannot be reached by the player at the meeting space for it is too high and thus out of reach.
